In January 2008, after 7 years on the Rye foreshore, Sand Sculpting Australia relocated to an exciting new venue - the ‘Frankston Waterfront’.  With Frankston beach, the pier and Kananook Creek as a backdrop, the area was transformed as 3,500 tonnes of sand were carved into scenes from favourite childhood ‘Fairytales and Fables’. The exhibition enthralled an audience of all ages for the next 3 months. Then, in December of the same year, the Waterfront once again became home to massive sand sculptures – this time with the theme ‘Dinostory’. The sculptures depicted creatures and scenes from the age of the dinosaurs, and dominated the landscape from Boxing Day right through until Anzac Day.

On December 26, 2009, sculptors from Russia, the Netherlands, Belgium, Singapore, Ireland, the UK, Canada and the USA will once again join with their Aussie workmates to form a team of 21 artists that will carve the sand to ‘life’ as Sand Sculpting Australia - Frankston Waterfront 2009-2010 presents 'Great Moments in History'. These creative and very talented people will work tirelessly for nearly 3 weeks to recreate some of the most memorable events in our history. From caveman discovering fire to astronauts walking on the moon, from the birth of Christ to the assassination of JFK, these sculptures will depict moments in time that are remarkable, famous or infamous.

Integrated with the sand sculptures will be our regular activities to keep the whole family entertained. Why not try your hand at carving in the Sand Workshop area, or enjoy a talk conducted by our resident sculptor. During school holidays and on weekends and public holidays, there will be many more activities available to ensure a fun day out for people of all ages.
